Larnie Fox Unorthodox
Larnie Fox is the Executive Director of Arts Benicia and the former Director of the Children's Fine Art Program for the City of Palo Alto at the Palo Alto Art Center. He is also a visual and sound artist known for monumental bamboo sculpture, sound installations and performances. His kinetic/sound sculptures and new instruments have been shown in numerous one-person and group shows and performances in the SF Bay Area and Salt Lake City, Utah. Collaborations with his wife Bodil have included set design for Theatre of Yugen's "Cycle Plays" at Theatre Artaud and a giant kinetic dragonfly for the DuPage Museum near Chicago. He is a founding member of 23five, a San Francisco based organization that promotes sound art and currently directs the Crank Ensemble, a fourteen-member group that performs on hand-cranked instruments he built. Larnie Fox is He holds an M.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from the University of Utah and lives, works and collaborates with his wife Bodil in San Francisco’s well-known Excelsior district. The Unornorthodox April project is the sound sculpture "Floor Harp", with collaborators Bodil Fox and Lena Strayhorn.
zBug; an industrial jazz unit based in San Francisco, CA that presents structured improvisational music sets based on the performance venue and compositional themes along with featuring prominent video artists and musical guests on selected concert engagements. They have also been associated with Wadada Leo Smith, Kidd Jordan, Eddie Gale, and Lou Reed's Metal Machine Trio.
Abyss of Fathomless Light
Abyss of Fathomless Light is the sound and performance project of San Francisco based Artist Bert Bergen. Synthesizers, cassette tape loops and effects are employed to initiate a ritualistic atmosphere that communes with what lies beyond the Astral Plane. Bert has had solo exhibitions at The SFMOMA Windows (San Francisco, CA), Adobe Books (San Francisco, CA), and The SFMOMA Artist’s Gallery (San Francisco, CA). His work has been included in group exhibitions at ISE Cultural Foundation Gallery (New York, NY), Shizuoka University of Art and Culture Japan, Civilian Arts Project (Washington, DC), ArtScape (Baltimore, MD), and Southern Exposure (San Francisco, CA). He has done residencies at Skylab Gallery (Columbus, OH) and Post Expose (Long Island City, NY). Publications that have featured his work include The Believer Magazine, the San Francisco Chronicle and Good Intentions. He has been a guest lecturer at the Evergreen State College.
That Hideous Strength
A continuing San Francisco based collective of improvising musicians with a rotating membership save it's founder, Benjamin Tinker. Currently the membership includes of Anna Wray & Nava Dunkelman - percussion, Joshua Marshall - sax, Ryan Page - electric guitar, and April Tang, Nick Wang and Benjamin Tinker - electronics.
