Michael Namkung uses his body as a medium to perform kinesthetic experiments that borrow from the language of sports training and athletic performance. Drawings delineate the site of perception, where self and the world touch—maps that record points of contact between body and environment. As the self marks the space, the space marks the individual in return, which manifests reciprocally in the physical work one does.

Namkung’s work seeks to disturb lines that are categorically drawn, and questions the stability of the contours we embody and by which we limit ourselves. In drawing under duress, he aims to agitate these edges and breach these boundaries, in order to reveal their tenuousness and open a space for play and discovery.
