An Alphabet of Famous Mountains is a metaphorical alphabet that examines categorizations of nature drawing from the history of the picture postcard. In this alphabet, composed of 26 color cut paper cards, mountains serve as a metaphor for challenge and inspiration. In Nereim’s work, she explores the construction of experience and memory through collecting and documenting. Her process involves accepting the impulse to organize while embracing the futility and humor in this attempt. She continues to search for meaning in the cataloguing processes, and through this, she examines the edifice of nature. Nereim finds resonance with the histories of making by hand, appreciating beauty and, with levity, making sense of the incomprehensible.
