Gabrielle Thormann Gabrielle Thormann joins together an array of materials in movements of expansion, extension, reaching, compaction, dropping, and climbing. Her work poses questions by using each material with full consciousness of its potential to communicate: how can we penetrate into, out of, and build on the surface? Do we necessarily tear away from the whole and then add to reconstruct? Is it always a grid? Will it always be a grid? How do we look, scope, discover, and build for breathing and living with organic consciousness and structural integrity? Gabrielle Thormann‘s paintings and drawings playfully and thoughtfully consider several possibilities. Wall, edges, undersides, light, shadow, and viewers shift and interact in this universe of unique shape moments.
