Within Xylor Jane and Jeff Kao's Blue Max installation, The LAB hosts an evening of supersonic exploration with a south-of-the-border flavor. The San Francisco, California duo of Pepito consists of Ana Machado (Tijuana) and Jose Marquez (Havana). Together they produce sprightly songs that layer pop, house, post-rock, electronic and punk music in a romantic, fast-paced joy ride. Their second album, "Everything Changes," released in May of 2004, was hailed as the future of pop in SF's own XLR8R magazine. Mexicali, Mexico-based Ruben Tamayo has produced over a dozen releases under the moniker of Fax, including two full-length albums with labels in the U.S., Germany and Mexico. Fax deftly combines the tradition of Detroit techno with ethereal melodies reminiscent of the Cocteau Twins.
